Before you think there is a war on religion whenever something like removing "In God We Trust" from the money, or removing "Under God" from the pledge is brought up, just please think about it a little harder. There is no war against you holding whatever faith that you want. The problem is plain and simply government and state endorsement of ONE SINGLE religion. Believe what you want and do what you want as long as you don't hurt anyone or take anyone's civil rights away, but our government should remain secular regardless. It should not take any specific religious stance. If "In Allah we trust" was put on the money or children in schools were pledging allegiance with one nation under Krishna, Christians would go insane trying to get that changed. It doesn't mean you are starting a war on Islam or trying to destroy Buddhism or Hinduism. It means you are trying to be fair and not put one religion over another in the eyes of the state. Or at least I would hope that would be the reason. The problem tends to lie in the fact that some Christians (in this country since they are the majority) think that if they aren't allowed to embed their beliefs into the government as the one true faith regardless of any other ideologies, then there is a problem. Which is absolutely crazy.
Equality is the goal. Plain and simple. It has nothing to do with tearing down an ideology AT ALL. When you live in a country with such cultural and religious diversity you cannot put one religion at the top and inject that religion into the sayings and infrastructure of the country's government and expect people of all other faiths (or lack thereof) to just "go along" with your desired brand of religion. So leave religion out of government and let it be up to the individual to worship how they see fit on their own. Why in the world should a secular government cater to any one religion? Why should the ten commandments be put in courthouses? Why should our money have any reference to a divine deity?
So I say again, no one is trying to destroy your religion. Take a breath. Stop being so damn defensive when this kind of stuff is brought up. Just talk about it like freaking adults rather than flying off the handle and claiming that the sky is falling. Are people sitting at the doors of your church preventing you from worshiping? Are you flogged in the streets for claiming a certain religion? Are you legally restricted from praising your god? No. And even though I don't share your faith, I would fight for your right to keep it. But I'll also fight for other people's right to not have your faith imposed on them against their will.
